Petware Pottery has been making ceramic bowls for pets for decades, but at its heart, the idea has always been pretty simple: the things we use for our pets every day can be high quality, practical and beautiful.

We’re Julie and Alex, the husband-and-wife team behind Petware Pottery. We took the reins of the company in 2024 and brought production home to Denver, Colorado, where every bowl is now made, finished, and painted by hand in our studio.

We’re pet people ourselves (Mom & Dad to Bixby, the Cavachon and Poppy, the Mini-Aussie), and we know how much thought goes into the things we choose for them—from what they eat to where they sleep to the thousand little decisions that become part of life together. Their bowl is one of those things. It sits in your kitchen every day, gets used over and over, and becomes part of your home almost without you noticing.

We think it deserves a little more thought.

Made by hand, not by the thousands

There are plenty of pet bowls in the world. Most of them come off an assembly line.

Ours don’t.

Each Petware bowl passes through our hands again and again before it ever reaches yours. From forming and finishing the clay to decorating, glazing, firing, and inspecting the finished piece, there are a lot of steps—and a lot of opportunities for our hands to leave their mark.

That means no two bowls are ever exactly alike. A brushstroke may vary slightly. A glaze may break a little differently around an edge. Those small variations aren’t flaws to us. They’re part of what makes a handmade piece feel like a handmade piece.

Our bowls aren’t meant to sit on a shelf and look precious. They’re made for real pets and real life.

We use lead-free, food-safe materials, and our bowls are dishwasher safe. Their substantial ceramic construction gives them the weight and durability you want from something that gets used every single day—and helps keep them from skittering across the floor at mealtime.

We want you to love the way your Petware bowl looks when it arrives. But even more, we want you to still love it years from now. 

Because pet things can be beautiful, too

We care a lot about design.

Pet bowls tend to live right out in the open, so we’ve never understood why they should feel like something you want to hide when people come over. We make ours in a growing mix of colors, patterns, playful designs, and styles so you can choose something that feels like your pet and your home.

Some are colorful. Some are quirky. Some are simple. Some make us laugh.

All of them are made to feel like they belong.

From our Denver studio to your home

Petware Pottery is a small business, which means the bowl you order isn’t disappearing into a giant fulfillment system somewhere. We are the real people on the other side of your order, making, packing, answering questions, experimenting with new designs, and occasionally getting far too excited about a particularly good glaze combination.

We’re incredibly grateful that something made with our hands gets to become part of everyday life with your pet.
